'Of all the house chores, vacuuming stairs are the hardest of all. However, there are various ways to approach the difficulty. If thinking of how to vacuum stairs, you don’t have to worry because in this article we will tell you can do so and get clean and sparkling stairs within a few minutes.
While most usually overlook staircases when cleaning the house, you need to know that your feet regularly stomp up and down leaving marks and so they need your attention if you want your house to stay clean.
Personally, while vacuuming my stairs I carry a small cylinder vacuum and use its main floor head to clean with every step that I make. After that, I go down, attach the crevice nozzle and move around the edges of every stair.
Here is how you can do it-
An upright challenge
Nothing is more annoying than owning upright vacuums since such vacuums are heavier than cylinder vacuums. Such vacuums also don’t sit well on the stairs while cleaning. However, if your vacuum comes with a hose that is long enough to stay on the floor as you clean the steps with the hose and attachments, then you will enjoy.
With a vacuum that has a long hose, you can leave it at the bottom on the floor and reach the top. That is why I love upright vacuums; it’s much easier than having to try to force a vacuum to stand on the stairs.
Also, there are hand-held or cordless vacuums that are lighter than the usual ones and useless effort. But, these vacuums are a bit expensive.
How to vacuum stairs
While people tell of various ways on which they use to clean their stairs, with some placing one at the top and the other one at the bottom, here is the simplest way to do so!
Remove large items
Before you get down to vacuuming, you need to do away with large snippets of papers or any other remnants on the staircase. Collecting large objects is something you can do by use of hands. Just get rid of anything that you think might block your cleaning unit.
You would not want your vacuum to clog. By removing large pieces before using a vacuum, you get an easy and effective vacuuming.
Start with the corners and edges
Do away with the large addition at the end of the unit with the use of tiny nozzle region since it reaches the corners comfortably. Vacuum the steps as you move as you go up the staircase as you assess the nozzle with every step. While cleaning, make sure you vacuum the corners since that is where dirt and dust settles.
Some people overlook the corners as they vacuum, and once they finish vacuuming from top to bottom, they notice dust coming out of the corners with every step they take coming down. by starting at the corner, your stairs are thoroughly clean.
Vacuum the stairs
Once you finish with the corners, it is about time you clean your stairway. Walk down to change the attachments. Clean by running your vacuum back and forth on every stairway and make sure you cover the entire area.
All you need is to twist your hand and the vacuum will toss over at the bottom while the pump sits on the steps. But if your vacuum has a long hosepipe, just place it on the floor and clean the entire steps.
Cleaning the stairs with a vacuum that has a long hose is easy and comfortable since you don’t have to keep moving the machine as you go up the staircase. Rotate the pipe upside-down and then vacuum horizontally and vertically. Vacuum as you move up to the top in the same way.
Use the vacuum in all directions
As you vacuum in an up and down motion, make sure you cover every part of the stairs. By vacuuming in a vertical and horizontal motion, you are not likely to leave unclean surfaces behind.
Vacuuming in all directions ensures a 360-degree coverage which means that you can vacuum the entire steps.
Check the stairs
You cannot say you are through with vacuuming without checking if the stairs are clean. It is good to stand back and check to see if there are unclean parts. If not, just admire your effort.
By checking after cleaning, you are sure that your staircases a clean and you are able to clean any area that you miss out.
